Ardmore designers have given us two signature limited edition sofas with the launch of our Sabie fabric collection 2020, which come 30 in Tanzanite and 30 in Delta, both in rich and sensual velvet. The high backs allow for two to sit amongst dancing elephants juggling a vervet monkey, flanked by travelers riding a giraffe and ostrich. Our feet and behinds cool off in the Sabie river waters where hippos and crocs play amongst water lilies and a python coils in the right-hand corner under one鈥檚 arm. In the shadows of the plants, at the back of the sofa, emerges the elusive King cheetah with his rare spots and stripes. The sofa's border base and arms are framed with Zulu beaded striped - liked pattern, so often seen in the bases of Ardmore Ceramic works. These sofas transport us into a magical animal and botanical fantasy and we consider them to be appreciated as Artwork.

In August 2018 Fe茅 Halsted set off to the Kruger National Park to unwind and recharge her slightly frazzled batteries. Nothing is more salutary and exciting than nestling in the bush to ignite the imagination and restore one's faith in humanity and rekindle the spirit. She "glamped" in rondavel huts in the Lower Sabie, a dense lush region of the park, in which trees, plants, and bushes abound watered by the great Sabie River where its vegetation draws large varieties of birds and game to drink, bathe and fish. The area is a never-ending tapestry of camouflaged beasts where light, sound and movement, and color shift and change. Ardmore Artists have never come into close contact with the fauna and flora they represent and we are charmed by their earnest and naive rendering which is similar to the paintings of French artist Henri Rousseau. It is this earnest depiction of our African fauna and flora that we so valued and enjoyed.
Ardmore Design was established as an extension of Ardmore Ceramic Art, producing beautifully designed fabric, soft-furnishings, lifestyle products for the home and accessories. The designs created for these items are inspired by the art elements of the ceramic pieces from Ardmore Ceramics which is known for its ornate ceramic art pieces. Ardmore Design looks to discover, develop, and distribute luxury designs that will play a role in sustaining the creative lives of the continent鈥檚 artistic community and feed the appetite of the world for African sourced products.

A fun accent piece that actually gets used

I put this in the reading corner of our den and took the photo on a bright Saturday morning. It’s not a staged room—the blanket, coffee mug, and my tote bag are usually right there. The ottoman is firmer than I expected, but it works really well as a footrest or an extra seat when friends come over. The pattern is definitely bold, although it blends better with our older furniture than I thought it would.

Looks great in our hallway, but it is larger than I expected

I put this console in the hallway near our front door and took this photo one morning before leaving for work. The wood grain looks beautiful in daylight, and the open arches keep it from feeling too heavy against the wall. We use the lower shelf for baskets and shoes, while the top usually ends up holding our keys, mail, and whatever the kids bring in from school. It was a little wider than I pictured, so definitely measure your space first, but it feels very sturdy and has made the entryway much more useful.

Useful storage without looking like a filing cabinet

We placed this next to the reading chair in our den, and the round shape works much better there than the square table we had before. The raffia has more visible texture in person, which gives the room some warmth without feeling too beachy. I use the drawers for reading glasses, chargers, and the remotes, although they are better for smaller things than bulky storage. The marble top is easy to wipe down and feels substantial. My only warning is that the table is much heavier than it looks, so we needed two people to move it into place. I took this photo on a normal Saturday morning with my book and coffee still sitting nearby.

Deep, comfortable, and much warmer in person

We have had this sofa in our living room for about a month, and it has become the spot where everyone ends up at night. The seat is deeper than our old sofa, which is great for stretching out, but I would definitely check the 41-inch depth if your room is tight. The leather looks taupe during the day and a little warmer under our lamps at night. It already has a few natural creases where we sit most often, which I actually prefer to leather that stays perfectly stiff. Delivery took some planning because the sofa is heavy and wide, but once it was in the room, the low profile made the space feel more open.

Plenty of storage without looking bulky

We put this along the back wall of our dining room and it holds far more than I expected. Most of our serving dishes, table linens, and the things that used to sit on the dining table are finally out of sight. The finish is a warm cream rather than a bright white, and the grasscloth texture is more noticeable when you’re standing close to it. Delivery definitely required two people because the piece is very heavy. It also sits a little lower than our previous buffet, but the long top works perfectly when we have family over for dinner. I took this picture before clearing away the kids’ backpack and grocery bag, which is honestly how the room usually looks.

The interior lights make all the difference

We bought this for the pottery and glassware we had scattered around our dining room. I took this picture at night because that’s when the cabinet looks its best—the two lights give everything a warm glow without being overly bright. The Mink finish has more texture and gray-brown variation in person than I could see online, and the rounded top keeps such a tall cabinet from feeling too heavy. It is extremely substantial, so I was glad we chose in-room delivery. The glass does show fingerprints, but they wipe off easily. I also like that the shelves don’t need to be packed full for the cabinet to look finished.
